A special assembly was conducted on 5th January, 2017 at the amphitheater of the Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune. It was organized to mourn the sad demise and to pay tributes to our distinguished Founder Trustee Late Padmabhushan Dr. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, who passed away on 30th December, 2016 at his residence in Loni village in Ahmednagar district, following a prolonged illness.He was 84. Padma Vibhushan Dr. K.H. Sancheti, Padma Vibhushan Dr. Vijay Kelkar and Retired Justice B.G. KolsePatil, Dr. ManojNarwade, Trustee and Secretary of the Dr. VikhePatil Foundationand Director PCMRD, Pune and Nandini Ma’am, Joint Secretary of the Dr. VikhePatil Foundation and Director, School Programmes were the special guests on the solemn occasion.

song-tributeThe programme was compered by Mrs Bharati Kudchadker and it began with the prayer Hum Ko Mann Ki Shakti Dena. A two minute silence was then observed to honour the memory of the great visionary.Whilst paying homage, students from various classes presented glimpses of his life and achievements.

Students of Stds IV and V gave an insight into his early years and saluted his accomplishments, innumerable awards and political life.Students of Stds VI to VIII acknowledged his social reforms and political career, through a short skit. Students of Std IX apprised the audience of his initiatives, achievements and the educational institutions that he pioneered, as he continued the legacy of his illustrious father Padma Shri Dr. Vithalrao Vikhe Patil.

To pay homage to the departed soul, students of Stds III and IV presented a powada, encapsulating his life and formidable accomplishments.

memory-balasahebWhile addressing the audience, Dr. K.H. Sancheti, Dr. Vijay Kelkar and Retired Justice B.G. Kolse Patil praised the performances of the students and shared anecdotes and inspiring snippets of information about Dr. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil’s life and habits. Dr. Sancheti exhorted the students to follow the principles of simplicity and respect towards parents and teachers, in their lives. A Sita Ashoka sapling was planted by all the dignitaries and the Principal Mrs. Kiran Jadhav. They were assisted by the senior office bearers and the great visionary’s ashes were spread around the sapling, as a mark of respect and remembrance to immortalize him in our memory. The assembly culminated with the exhortation to the students by the compere, to follow in his illustrious footsteps and to resolve to carry forward the enduring legacy of Padmabhushan Dr. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil and bring to fruition his vision in their lives, wherever they may go. The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
