Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity where students learn the basic principles of diplomacy through realistic simulations of international multilateral organizations, typically committees of the UN.

In this era of globalization, learning about the world is more important than ever. No matter what field or profession students enter, they will interact with people from different countries and diverse backgrounds. Problems taking place halfway around the globe impact our lives, our country, and our communities. Students learn about the world as they prepare for Model UN conferences, represent countries other than their own, and present possible solutions to global problems in committees. They also offer a popular way to learn about the UN – and for the organization to reach tomorrow’s leaders.

Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune proudly hosted its second Vikhe Patil Model United Nations (VPMUN)  2018 – 2019 on  17th and 18th November 2018, with 120 participants from across 17 different schools.

The program was inaugurated at the hands of Major General Amol Parab by lighting the lamp. The other dignitaries who graced the occasion were  Mrinalini Ma’am- Principal Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Pune, Mrs .Vinutha Ranourkar- Principal Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Lohegaon and Mrs. Swati Kharde – Principal Vikhe Patil Memorial School, Loni.

The lighting of the lamp was followed by a welcome song by the school choir and a classical dance performance dedicated to Lord Shiva. Students then moved into their respective committees for the discussions. The second day too was equally fruitful with  serious debates, interviews and heated arguments, with each delegate trying to voice his opinion for his country. The International Press seemed like true paparazzi, shooting questions and getting the best pictures and interviews.

The students had a great learning experience and thoroughly enjoyed playing their roles well. They also enjoyed the lunch and the high tea served on both days. The session ended with the distribution of certificates to the winners.
